The lily originated in the Northern Hemisphere in Asia, Europe, and North America and quickly earned the meaning “majesty,” due to their unique shape and association with the Virgin Mary. Symbolizing beauty and purity, each color of the lily represents a different meaning. For example, the white lily symbolizes purity and modesty, while the orange lily symbolizes passion. The pink lily symbolizes wealth and prosperity.
The lily was believed by the ancient Greeks to have been created when a drop of milk fell from Hera’s breast while unwittingly feeding the baby Hercules. The Greeks saw it as a symbol of birth and motherhood.
You may not realize it, but the oil extracted from a lily has been found to have a healing and softening ability. You can even use the oil to heal dry, cracked skin.
